Factual History
Railway stations posed an interesting challenge for architects in the 1800s. No classical models existed for this new
building type, and designers chose a variety of styles to meet this new function. The first Grand Central Station (1895) in
New York City was built in the Second Empire style fashionable in France. Towers at the center and the corners were capped
with mansard roofs that had four sloping sidesa distinctive feature of this style.

Fictional History
I'm not so good at this history stuff...but as of right now this is the best I've got.
In June 1904, I moved from Brooklyn to Manhattan. I was lookin' for a place to stay and was thinkin' about
goin' to the Lower East Side, but that wasn't such a grand idea. I soon came across dis Lodgin' House. Went inside
and turned out I was the foist customer at the place. The gentleman behind the desk said he had just opened the day
before and wanted to get more newsies to stay at his place. We discussed it and decided I would be da leader and would
find kids who needed a place to stay. We laid out rules and decided how things should be run and it's been like that
ever since. It's been like that ever since.
